1. Instructions on how to register for IELTS at British Council

1.1 Exam registration location

There are two ways to register for the IELTS test : direct registration and online registration. The specific registration address is as follows:

Register for the test directly

To register for IELTS , you can register for the test directly with. British Council - British Council (BC) . Or through partners that have registered for the IELTS test and are approved by the British Council.

Direct payment

Candidates can pay directly at the British Council IELTS registration office by card or cash. When you come, bring the reservation confirmation sent when registering online. Attached is the original valid identification document.

After successful bank transfer, British Council will confirm your registration. Besides, you should note that the IELTS test fee does not include the transfer fee (if any).

1.4 Receive confirmation of exam date

After completing the IELTS registration procedure , the British Council will send a confirmation email of successful registration to the email provided by the candidate. Attached in the email will be information to access IELTS preparation resources including Road to IETLS online test preparation course and many other documents.

The IELTS Listening, Reading and Writing sections will take place on the same day. The Speaking test can take place on the same or different days (up to 1 week before or after). Rest assured that you will be notified if the Speaking test takes place on a different date.

1.5 Some other notes

In the process of registering for the IELTS test , candidates need to pay attention to the following issues:

• Make sure documents such as ID card or passport are valid.
• Under the age of 18 must have a representative or parent to register for the exam.
• Those under the age of 16 are encouraged not to take the exam.
• Download the IELTS Information for Candidates section to get important information about the structure, format, results...
• Guaranteed payment by bank transfer within 3 days of registration for the exam. If this time is exceeded, the IELTS registration process will be cancelled.

In fact, there is no limit to who can take the IELTS test. In other words, there is no criterion for IELTS test eligibility. The IELTS test is offered around the world to people of all ages, genders, religions and nationalities. Although the creators discourage people under 16 from taking the IELTS test, that age restriction is only a recommendation; Candidates can still take the test if they wish.

2.2 Exam fees

3. Things to know about the IELTS exam

3.1 How often is it held?

The number and timing of IELTS paper-based and computer-based tests vary. Specifically:

• For paper-based exams, IDP will organize about 3-4 times/month in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City as well as provinces authorized by IDP.
• Computer-based exams are held more frequently. Almost every week, there is an exam every 6 days and there are 2 exams in a day.

3.2 Where is the IELTS test location?

You are free to choose the test location that suits you. In big cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, the test sites will usually be located in the inner city. In particular, large hotels should ensure that the conditions of the exam room meet international standards. 

Candidates registering for the IELTS test will be notified by email 3 days before the official test date.

One piece of advice for you is that if possible, you should arrive at the test site 1-2 days in advance. This will help you understand the route to avoid wasting time in the process of commuting on test day.

3.3 What are allowed and prohibited items?

The IELTS test is strictly supervised, so candidates enter the room when they have to leave all their belongings outside. Only the ID card or passport used to register for the IELTS test can be brought into the test room.

3.4 What else should be kept in mind?

• The Speaking test schedule can be arranged on the same day as the Writing test. Or within 7 days before/after the official Writing test date.
• 3 days before the official test date, if candidates do not receive an email about the time and location of the test, they must actively contact IDP for support. 
• The IELTS test rescheduling may depend on the number of candidates registered and the test location. So it is possible to change the exam date. Candidates need to pay close attention to not miss any information.
• Many of you wonder how many days in advance to register for the IELTS test . DOL has an advice for you to register for the IELTS test 1-2 months in advance to ensure that you have a seat on the desired test date. At the same time, you can choose your own Speaking test date

How many times is the IELTS exam held in a year?

There is no fixed number of times for the IELTS exam to be held. It is conducted several times per year, candidates can choose their IELTS test date whenever they are ready. 

Is it possible to take the IELTS test online at home?

Yes, candidates can take IELTS Indicator. This test is taken online at home and has the same structure as an in-person IELTS test. Candidates only need to prepare the equipment required by the IELTS administrator.
